Ingredients:
- Half kg beef or mutton keema: This is the base of the dish. You can choose either beef or mutton based on your preference.
- 1 large cup of peas: Peas add a sweet and tender contrast to the savory keema.
- 2 large tomatoes, chopped: Tomatoes provide acidity and a rich flavor base for the curry.
- 1 large onion, chopped: Onions are essential for building the foundational flavor of the dish.
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste: This adds an aromatic and zesty note.
-1 tablespoon red chili powder: For heat and vibrant color.
- 1 tablespoon coriander powder: Adds a mild, earthy flavor.
- 1 tablespoon cumin seeds: Provides a warm, slightly nutty taste.
- Pinch of turmeric powder: Adds color and a slight peppery flavor.
- Pinch of garam masala powder: A blend of spices that adds depth and complexity.
- 1 tablespoon chaat masala: This gives a tangy and slightly spicy kick.
- Oil for cooking: To saute the ingredients and bring out their flavors.
- 1 cup water: To create the curry base and cook the meat.
- Coriander leaves for garnishing: Adds freshness and a burst of color.
Method
1. Preparing the Pan and Oil:
- Begin by heating a pan on medium heat.
- Add a generous amount of oil. Allow the oil to heat up, but be careful not to let it smoke.
2. Frying the Cumin Seeds:
- Once the oil is hot, add the cumin seeds.
- Fry the cumin seeds until they turn lightly brown. This will release their essential oils and enhance their flavor.
3. Sauteing the Onions:
- Add the chopped onions to the pan.
- Sauté the onions until they turn a golden brown color. This step is crucial as it builds the base flavor for the dish.
4. Incorporating Tomatoes and Spices:
- Once the onions are browned, add the chopped tomatoes to the pan.
- Add the ginger-garlic paste, red chili powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, and chaat masala.
- Mix all the ingredients thoroughly, ensuring that the tomatoes are well-coated with the spices.
5. Cooking the Keema:
- Add the keema to the pan. Mix it well with the tomato and spice mixture.
- Continue to stir the keema until it is evenly browned. This helps in infusing the flavors into the meat.
6. Adding Water and Simmering:
- Pour in one cup of water.
- Mix well, ensuring that the water incorporates with the keema mixture.
- Cover the pan with a lid and let it simmer for about 20 minutes. This allows the keema to cook thoroughly and absorb all the flavors.
7. Incorporating the Peas:
- After 20 minutes, add the peas to the pan.
- Stir them into the keema mixture, ensuring they are evenly distributed.
- Cover the pan again and let it cook for another 20 minutes. This ensures that the peas become tender and the keema is fully cooked.
8. Final Touches:
- Check if the keema and peas are completely cooked. The mixture should be thick and flavorful.
- Turn off the flame once everything is well-cooked and the water has reduced to create a rich gravy.
9. Garnishing and Serving:
- Garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves.
- Serve hot with rice or tandoori roti.
Conclusion:
This Pea Keema is a delicious and hearty dish that brings together the tender texture of minced meat with the sweet bite of peas. It's perfect for a family meal or a festive gathering. The combination of spices creates a rich and aromatic curry that is sure to be a hit with everyone. Enjoy this delightful dish and share it with your loved ones. Happy cooking and Bon Appetit!
